Universal Studios Singapore

First stop of our Singapore trip — Universal Studios Singapore!

Hot as it is in Singapore, with the unpredictable rainshowers, I decided to dress appropriately and went with a white tank, denim cutoffs and tie-up gladiator flats plus an unwieldy umbrella as an accessory.

That’s my first USS tip, bring an umbrella. It’s protection from both the sun and the rain, both of which could ruin a perfectly good theme park date. You can take shelter in the various attractions, or, as many tourists do, the dining spots all over the place… but they’re often packed when the sun is at its hottest (or when the rain pours) and you’ll be hardpressed to find a seat.

For a while I regretted bringing the umbrella, until the mid-afternoon sun came out, and later, the rain. In case you do bring an umbrella and opt not to lug it around (along with whatever else is weighing you down), inquire at guest services and they’ll point you towards the lockers that you can rent out for a fee (I think the large lockers go for 20SGD).

Or do what I did, see the printed orange scarf I’m sporting in the photo? I used it to tie the umbrella to my bag strap and have it hang over my shoulder like a scabbard, putting it completely out of the way! I know. My genius never fails to astound me as well. Hehe.

My second USS tip would be to reserve your tickets online. It’ll save you a lot of trouble. There are limited tickets per day and it’ll guarantee you entry with no hassle. You just print out your tickets and when you get there, attendants scan the bar code and let you in. Easy-peasy.

My third tip would be to NOT wear flipflops. Yes, say goodbye to your havaianas for the day if you intend to go on their rides. Some rides, I won’t say which ones, will have you dangling from the air and if you don’t want to go barefoot the rest of the day, I suggest you go with your other trusty walkers.

Battle Star Galactica Ride

Once you’re in, you get your 15SGD vouchers from Guest Services (10SGD for food and 5SGD for retail) and away you go.

Eat.

Drink.

And be merry.

Discover new lands.

Strike a pose.

Shop.

You may find hidden perils,

but you may also find love. Haha.

Enjoy your USS day!

(Note: As of this writing, Puss and I have tragically broken it off. I just can’t see myself in a long distance relationship with such a casanova. Far far away is just too far far away. Sigh.)

Photos by my beloved cajut. He’s not quite Puss, but I love him just the same ;)

    • Well, it really depends on what you want to do. We spent the whole day there but we didn’t really have to. I suggest you go first thing in the morning, have lunch there and leave before it gets too hot. When it’s around mid-afternoon, it gets too hot to walk around or go on rides anyway so you’ll end up crowding in with a lot of other tourists in the shaded or airconditioned areas.

thanks for replying. is it possible to tour the whole place if we’re there on opening time and leave at around 2pm?

    • It’s possible to go around but not to try everything. It would depend on how long the lines are and the schedule of the shows that you want to see. In our case, we left after 5pm because we wanted to catch the last show of “Waterworld”, although, we killed a lot of time before then just walking around because there were hardly any lines and we didn’t really go on rides.

With that schedule though, you’d still be able to do a lot. :)
